Geylor Coveta – First Placer in World WindSurfing Competition in Boracay Island

The windsurfing event that was held in a Boracay island resort turned out to be very successful for the Filipinos. Several Filipinos grabbed honors in the said competition that was held last Dec. 10 – 15, 2012.

Among these Filipinos is Geylord Coveta, 30 years old from Mabini, Batangas, who won the First Place in the Men’s Class of the prestigious 2012 RS: One World Championships. He outran foreign athletes like Chang Hao of Taiwan and Yuta Nagano of Japan.

Bringing another honor to the country is another member of the Philippine Team, Yancy Kaibigan. Only aged 17 and still from Batangas, he won third place in the espoir men’s division. Ahead of him in the competition were Chun Ting Lee and Yok Liu who are both from Hong Kong.

The third Filipino to make it to the list of winners in the competitions is 59-year-old Rolando Francisco. Francisco won third place in the master’s class. He was bested by gold winner Micah Sambelan from Indonesia and silver winner Kazuyoshi Nagashima from Japan.
Meanwhile, Hei Man Chan, won the race for the women’s fleet.

The RS:One Competition has a new attractive and dynamic race format which is ONE SAIL, ONE BOARD. This allows everyone on the same equipment wherein men and women racers compete all together.

The wind conditions were perfect at 6 to 33 knots where 14 races were held.
