Ten Movies Inspired by the Beach

Beaches have a way of making people feel relaxed, and forget about their woes; and are definitely proof of nature’s beauty, especially when they’re as beautiful as the Philippines’ very own Boracay!

If you’ve forgotten your love for the beach, here are some movies that will surely remind you of them!

  1. The Descendants
The descendants

Based on Kaui Hart-Hemmings’ novel of the same name, The Descendants is the story of Land Baron Matt King who’s out to rediscover his roots, while dealing with his failing marriage, and kids who do not even seem to know him.

Set in Hawaii, you’d be in awe of the perfect scenery, mixed with the acting chops of George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, and Judy Greer, among others. Do watch out for Clooney’s jogging scenes on the beach—they’re really something!

  1. Something Borrowed

Ah, to spend time at a beach house with your fiancé, his best man, and your best friend slash maid-of-honor. Well, it’s not that simple, though. What happens is that maid-of-honor finally falls in love…with her best friend’s fiancé! How would that affect the wedding? That’s for you to find out!

Based on Emily Giffin’s novel of the same title, this is a story set in the Hamptons that would help you realize the meaning of true love and friendship, albeit in complicated circumstances!

  1. When Love Begins

Speaking of Boracay, there’s a Philippine-made movie set there that stars two of the country’s most bankable stars: the dashing Aga Muhlach, and the lovely Anne Curtis.

When Love Begins is about a couple who met under the most unlikely circumstances but what matters about the film is how mesmerizing Boracay seemed. It truly captured the picturesque beauty of the Island!

  1. Blue Crush

Oh, a good old beach movie!

Blue Crush stars Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez as friends who just want to leave their old, monotonic lives behind, and have fun surfing at the beach! Definitely perfect for chilling out!

  1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Forgetting Sarah Marshall tells the story of a man who goes to Hawaii to forget his ex, Sarah. His time at the beach was interrupted when—surprise!—Sarah arrives with her new boyfriend. However, their story might not be over yet, because Sarah’s relationship with her boyfriend, Atticus, played by comedic great Russell Brand, is falling apart, too.

With just the right mixture of comedy and drama, this movie is sure to tug at your heartstrings, and make you realize that laughter really may just be the best medicine, after all.

  1. Charlie’s Angels 2: Full Throttle
Charlie Angels

The Angels are back—with Demi Moore as their enemy!

Set in the glorious beaches of Hawaii, watch Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz kick some ass—all in their bikinis to boot!

It won a couple of independent awards, and is something worth checking out, if not for the story, then for the beach!

  1. Romantic Island
